Melbourne, Australia

When I think of Australia, the first thing that comes to my mind is the iconic landscape. The Great Barrier Reef, the outback, the great deserts, the Ayers Rock. I chose the Barrier Reef to inspire this dress: Soft folds of ombre dyed indian fabric suggest water, with the white shibori pattern representing the reflection of the sun upon the surface of the ocean. Subtle embroidery on the hem looks a bit like corals seen from above the water – the handstitched quilting lines blur the rest of the sea-life inspired embroidery.

The dress has a draped bodice with a slight sweetheart neckline. It features three slits – one in the front and two at each sides. This adds a lightness to the whole dress, which is what I wanted to achieve – it shouldn’t be too ball-gown like. Using a light cotton as the main fabric hepled with this as well.

Adriana wears flat sandals and a fold-over clutch together with the dress. All in all, my aim was to make a beautiful outfit, that is not too formal and has a relaxed vibe to it. This is something that comes to my mind as well when I think of Australia: Easy-going, not too serious and always fun.

The race is already over (Arnold Schwarzenegger, so funny!),  Adriana leaves now to celebrate…  Only to come back in two weeks, to see the race in Sepang, Malaysia! See you there!

Thank you both so much! I’m so glad and relieved, I was really nervous how it would be perceived – especially by Australians! :) So thank you, you made my day!!
